Mules! Where they are from you tell me

28 Oct

Awwww yeah bonus post for the love of the Moscow Mule!

Also love for the people who planned the event I got to go to  celebrating the mule. Being in wine class, I usually feel like I can’t waste drinking energy on vodka–BUT! The good people of Smirnoff offered me an uber to and from their “immersive speakeasy” event.

That is smart. And good for the world at large as the less people taking to the roads tipsy the better. I mean I’d uber anyway but not really wanting to pay for it I might have just skipped the event. The uber was the last straw that got me out the door.

I had just a wee amount of fun. Evidence:

So, why am event? In the words of the brand:

“2016 marks 75 years of America’s most Googled cocktail – The Moscow Mule.”

Most googled! I guess a lot of people wanna make sure they get it right so lemme break it down here, no web searching needed.

It is: a shot of vodka, some lime juice and ginger beer. Whatever proportions you feel up to, really. On rocks.

Now that you have a bev let’s have some history. Again, as told to me by the company:

“In 1941 dark spirits were king and it was extremely rare for anyone to order vodka. John G. Martin, the President of Heublein (now The Smirnoff Co.), was very frustrated that he couldn’t sell his product and expressed his frustration with Jack Morgan (the owner of a popular LA pub), and Morgan’s girlfriend, Ozeline Schmidt. Together, the trio came up with the idea of combining SMIRNOFF No. 21 vodka with Morgan’s ginger beer to create what’s now one of the most loved cocktails in the U.S.”

There ya go! .

It is rather tasty. I drank two at the party and met some people who were up for taking those silly pictures with me you saw. I art directed:

“Serious shot. Now joy! Anger at the mule. C’mon people workit!”

It was fun.

The Last Sword

18 Nov

HAHA! Now here is a drink. If you are wondering where your Wine Wednesday is, well, I only have time for so many beverages so this week you get a cocktail, baby.

It is not so much a riff on The Last Word as it is inspired by said drink. Or should we say it is what happens when a drink gets autocorrected. FU.
My guest-stars were the fabulously funny Christina Meyers and Meredith Riley Stewart who have this RULL funny web series called Autocorrect FU that you should go watch n subscribe to n all that jazzy fun.
In the meantime, give our silly little drink-making webisode a look-see and give ‘er a thumbs up on the Youtubes if you can.
And now, I give you…
The Last Sword
1 oz gin (I used Beefeater)
1 oz. Cherry Heering
1 oz. grapefruit juice (a ruby red if you can)
1/4 oz. absinthe (Lucid is good stuff)
2 dashes Fee Bros. grapefruit bitters
Shake over ice and double-strain. Add one big ice cube.

Candy, Jason and Reese’s

This week’s episode of my dear darling Girls on GIRLS web series was Bridgid-less but guest-full.

Are you ever weirded out by art imitating life? The day I happened to have Jason Stuart, a comedian who is quite at home talking about being gay was the day that a character on the show we were discussing comes out to his wife. Whaddaya know. Jason and I both were into the serendipity of that moment. For all Jason’s work including his own web series go here.

And then there was my need for a dessert drink.

And along came Candy Washington, who I have the biggest woman crush on. She’s spectacular. Check out her goodness here. And Candy’s taste in candy is top-notch. We share a favorite: Reese’s peanut butter cups. You really cannot do better in the candy game. It is the simplest and the best. Like her!

The Candy Washington. Now with more alcohol.

Shake it up.

The Candy Washington an original by Ellen Clifford
